FDA extends compliance date for calorie labeling of certain vending items

Front-of-pack labeling requirements for certain gums, mints and roll candy products delayed to 2018.

FDA is extending the compliance date for certain requirements in the final rule requiring disclosure of calorie declarations for food sold from certain vending machines. The agency is taking this action in response to requests for an extension and for reconsideration of the rule’s requirements pertaining to the size of calorie disclosures on front-of-package labeling.
This final rule is effective December 1, 2016.

The compliance date for type size front-of-pack labeling requirements and calorie disclosure requirements for certain gums, mints, and roll candy products in glass-front machines in the final rule published December 1, 2014 is extended to July 26, 2018. The compliance date for all other requirements in the final rule remains December 1, 2016.
