Xpedx awarded Energy Star in two Carolina locations

Xpedx, which has earned the Energy Star designation in 24 sites since 2011, has now received the designation--given to buildings scoring in the top 25% of similar facilities nationwide for energy efficiency, based on the EPA’s energy performance rating system--for its locations in Charlotte, NC, and Columbia, SC.

The xpedx facilities in Charlotte and Columbia meet strict energy performance standards, use less energy, are less expensive to operate and cause fewer greenhouse gas emissions than peer facilities.

“At xpedx, we strive to not only provide sustainable solutions to our customers, but also to maintain our own energy-efficient operations,” said David Wallace, xpedx director, Sustainability.

As an “Energy Star partner,” xpedx is participating in a national call-to-action to improve the energy efficiency of America’s commercial and industrial buildings.

The Charlotte and Columbia sites combined have more than 236,000 sq. ft. of space. Bill Gravely is the division manager of the Charlotte location. “The Energy Star is an important benchmark for our customers to see as they become more focused on sustainability in their supply chain, and it has also motivated our team,” he said. “Earning the Energy Star has driven them to be conscious stewards of their work and home environments, and this visible dedication has even strengthened our team’s relationships with customers.”

The Charlotte and Columbia locations are the third and fourth xpedx facilities to earn the Energy Star designation this year. xpedx has established a goal to earn the Energy Star in a total of seven facilities this year, and has earned the Energy Star at 24 locations since 2011.

Energy Star is just one element of xpedx’s strategy to maintain sustainable operations, offer sustainable product choices and provide leadership in sustainable business practices. xpedx will also track recycling diversion rates at all locations in a drive to reduce landfill materials. The business is continuing a policy regarding the use of paper, in which 90 percent of its marketing materials only use paper certified to either the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) or Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) standards. xpedx is a SmartWay Transport Partner, which reflects its commitment to reduce emissions from its fleet.
