Strong growth projected for personal care packaging machinery

The Packaging Machinery Manufacturers Institute (www.pmmi.org) estimates that the U.S. domestic demand for packaging equipment will grow 3% in 2006 to $5.854 billion.

That's according to PMMI's 2006 Purchasing Plans Study. The increase represents the fifth consecutive year of machinery sales growth after 2001's recession.

The strongest growth segment will be personal care products machinery, with a 10% to 11%
projected jump. “Anticipating the needs and demands of the aging consumer, North American packaging machinery manufacturers are working with brand owners to create new, innovative machinery to meet new and redesigned product packaging
requirements,” says PMMI. “The increase in packaging machinery purchases is indicative of a myriad of new product introductions and package redesigns expected to roll out over the next couple of years within the personal care industry.”
