Georgia-Pacific appoints new Director of Packaging Sustainability

Patrick Smorch has been promoted to Director of Packaging Sustainability at Georgia-Pacific.

Smorch has spent the past five years leading the Packaging Systems Optimization (PSO) program. Smorch will now be responsible for Georgia-Pacific’s packaging sustainability initiative, the division design team and the PSO program. Smorch brings more than 15 years experience in the packaging industry, including packaging development and research roles at Pechiney Plastic Packaging and ConAgra Foods He has a bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University’s School of Packaging. “Smorch has strong technical expertise and management experience,” said Brian Reilly, senior director of marketing and business development at Georgia-Pacific. “His understanding of the packaging industry and measures for achieving greater sustainability throughout the packaging supply chain will be of significant benefit to Georgia-Pacific’s customers.”
