One-touch foam dispensing for suncare products

Dispensing of suncare products just got a bit easier in Europe, thanks to the adoption of mechanical foam dispensers from Airspray Intl. for new delial products from Sara Lee in Köln, Germany.

“As far as we know, delial is the first brand of suncare products in Europe to use these one-touch dispensers,” says Lothar Kempin, packaging manager for Sara Lee in Germany. “For all five of our products, we use an exclusive custom-designed 200-mL bottle blow molded of polypropylene.” The products include three levels of sunscreen, one self-tanner, and one “après-foam” that were launched in Germany and Austria in late March.

“The main reason we chose this dispenser was consumer safety. We don’t think it’s a good idea to package in an aerosol for products used in the sun where storage temperatures can exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit,” Kempin told Packaging World. “We selected the G3 pump because it dispensed the product with excellent consistency and customers liked the texture of the foams.”

Sara Lee’s delial products are sold by mass merchandisers, department, and specialty stores. Retail prices range from €5.95 (US$6.37) up to €12.99 (US$13.90). Depending on the success of the products this summer, Kempin says a broader European roll-out will take place next spring. —AO
