Dole launches fruitful size

Dole Food Company, Westlake Village, CA, is offering a bigger play on fruit in clear plastic containers: 24.5-oz “Dole Fruit in Plastic Jars.” The custom blow-molded multilayer barrier container features a pinched-in body to help protect the glued label, which is printed on clear film.

A clear “easy peel” inner film seals the container, which is topped with a blue closure. Dole would not reveal any packaging specifications.

“It’s a resealable, user-friendly package,” says Dole vice president of marketing services Marty Ordman. The products are offered in three varieties.

“Dole understands the importance of eating right, but knows the challenge of balancing nutrition with convenience,” says Ronda Reed, senior business manager. “New Dole Fruit in Plastic Jars offers refreshing, all-natural fruit in a container large enough to incorporate fruit in the whole family’s diet.” Dole has not packed fruit in multiserve portions in glass, instead deciding to make a “bold” jump right to plastics, according to Reed. She cites plastics’ unbreakable, kid-friendly, and lightweight attributes. The shelf-stable products, which were launched nationally in May, carry a one-year shelf life along with a suggested retail price of $2.29 to $2.59.
