Peelable ends improve the opening of tuna cans

The ends allow for smooth and safe opening, a plus for guarding against sharp edges on cans, and provide convenience in a category where many packages frustrate consumers.

Hard-to-open containers continue to frustrate consumers, and tuna is one category where these packages still dominate. However, Jealsa, a Mediterranean fish canner, believes it has an answer with a peelable-end can for the relaunch of its oil-based tuna, which the company supplies to Mercadona under the Spanish retailer’s Hacendado brand.

The PeelSeam™ peelable ends are from Crown Food Europe, a business unit of Crown Holdings Inc., and the can also features a recloseable plastic lid to encourage re-use.
