Leading2Lean, a cloud-based software provider to manufacturing industry, released a new survey that shows major misconceptions about the current status of US manufacturing.
According to the results, 70 percent of respondents believe the American manufacturing industry is in decline. More than half (58 percent) of the people interviewed believe manufacturing jobs in the US are disappearing, and the majority of respondents believe the reason for this is due to outsourcing of manufacturing jobs outside the US.
However, recent statistics say 3.5 million manufacturing jobs will need to be filled and an estimated two million of those jobs will go unfilled.
“This survey has brought to light the general public’s misconceptions about the current state of the manufacturing industry,” says Keith Barr, CEO and President of Leading2Lean. “It seems that the majority of Americans hold outdated assumptions about the industry, when the present day truth is American manufacturing is thriving.”
The survey also found that only 55 percent of respondents agreed that manufacturing offers fulfilling careers, and only 45 percent of respondents agreed that manufacturing jobs are an attractive option to younger workers.
