SunOpta Inc. has agreed to sell its global ingredients segment and related assets to global commodity trading company Amsterdam Commodities N.V. for approximately $390 million. Under the terms of the deal, Amsterdam Commodities will acquire SunOpta’s processing facilities in Amsterdam, the Netherlands; Silistra, Bulgaria; Addis Ababa, Ethiopia; and Yirgalem, Ethiopia. Expected to close by January 2021, the transaction remains subject to customary closing conditions.

The move will provide greater financial flexibility to enable the company’s accelerated growth in the production of value-added plant-based foods and beverages.
