PEF to make final distribution

The Packaging Education Forum (PEF) Board of Directors has authorized an ad-hoc committee of its members to develop a plan to distribute approximately $400ꯠ in assets to one or more college packaging programs. Afterwards, the Board plans to take a final vote to dissolve the foundation.

Since its 1957 founding, PEF has raised millions of dollars from organizations and individuals to support the establishment and growth of college-level packaging programs. However, says a PEF press release, "in the face of rising expenses and an overall decline in corporate and individual membership dues and contributions, PEF had a net loss from operations in fiscal year 2003 (ending June 30, 2003) of $20깽."

"The PEF Board has a continuing interest in encouraging individuals and organizations to support college-level packaging education," says Ben Miyares, PEF’s president. "We wish to thank the organizations and individuals who, over the years, have sustained the PEF. In winding down our operations, the PEF will explore ways to continue the Packaging Hall of Fame and Packaging Leader of the Year awards as celebrations of packaging achievement and events that will support packaging education."

PEF’s ad-hoc committee will include six industry leaders, including Miyares and Packaging World publisher Joseph Angel. For more information, contact Matt Croson, PEF director of communications, at 703/243-8555.
