According to a new white paper by PMMI Business Intelligence, craft distillery growth increased 15 percent between 2017 and 2018, reaching 1,835 establishments. Craft spirit sales also grew nearly 30 percent in 2018, reaching $3.7 billion in total sales.
“Craft Breweries and Distilleries: Machinery and Automation Trends” says craft distillers are “tapping into the pulse of consumers” by creating authentic, small-batch products produced with responsibly sourced ingredients from the surrounding community.

Craft distillers – having learned from the craft beer industry – are seeking to expand at a controlled rate while keeping a cap on their capabilities and budgets.
By keeping operations small and controlling expansion, craft distillers are able to control ingredient sourcing and the consistency of their batches, while also being in line with a sometimes fluctuating consumer demand.
