Pack Expo week is a machinery extravaganza and more

Swirling around Pack Expo 98 are seminars and technical conferences that round out the Pack Expo experience. Courses from IoPP.

Sure, there's 1.2 million sq' of exhibits to check out in the five-day extravaganza known as Pack Expo 98. But attendees will also have a chance to take in a variety of seminars and conferences before and after the show. To help you plan your Pack Expo week, here's a preview of what you can expect.

Four courses presented by the Institute of Packaging Professionals are scheduled November 6-7 at the Chicago Marriott Downtown.

How to analyze and implement a packaging line performance process is a two-day course that will show attendees how to use the "Performance Index" to buy smarter, reduce operating costs, improve performance and raise productivity. Consultants Paul J. Zepf and Eric M. Rumi of Zarpac will speak. During these two days, attendees can learn to determine needs, make real-time adjustments, save money and improve performance. Review and informal discussion periods are included.

Fundamentals of packaging machinery and line design is a comprehensive seminar taught by a team of experts in the field, including Luciano Packaging's Lawrence W. Luciano, Howard R. Leary and Richard L. Smith.

The bar-code learning system provides detailed knowledge in bar-code application design. One segment each on fundamentals, applications, getting started and business simulations take attendees through this course, presented by Richard B. Meyers and Robert W. Rylander.

Fundamentals of plastics packaging is an applications-oriented overview of plastics packaging that discusses the basics of polymer chemistry to the actual use of plastic materials in packaging applications. The course is taught by industry veteran Walter Soroka.

How Can You Honor a Leader?
Induction into the Packaging & Processing Hall of Fame is the highest honor in our industry. Submit your leader to be considered for the Class of 2024 now through June 10th. New members will be inducted at PACK EXPO International in Chicago.
