Sleeve label combines chips 'n' dip

Rumblers Chips ‘N’ Dip from Ennis Foods Ltd., Donegal, Ireland, combines tortilla chips and dip in a two-part clear plastic bowl and base, each with its own lid.

The single package is combined with a full-body sleeve label.

To apply the label, Ennis wanted a compact, but robust applicator that could achieve speeds of at least 120 packs/min. With a labeler from Grahams UK already in its plant, Ennis again turned to Grahams for a shrink-sleeve solution.

“We chose a Grahams RF 200 because of its reliability and back-up service,” says Cathy Hannigan, Ennis production manager. “The RF is compactly constructed yet parts are easily accessible for maintenance. As well as being efficient, it is also a bonus that some parts are common to our Commander label applicator.”

Ennis applies a label of 2-mil polyvinyl chloride that’s gravure printed in eight colors by Decorative Sleeves. In application the RF 200 applies glue to the sleeve, Hannigan says, so that when the opening panel is removed, the sleeve still attached displays the Rumblers brand and product name. The machine employs an electronic control system, programmable via an HMI station that allows the operator to store up to 50 different detailed settings.
