New paper/foil/polymer can debuts

Itsu iced tea in the UK has been launched in something called the Cartocan.

The cartocan is used by itsu for its line of teas.

Developed by Austrian dairy company Ennstal Milch, the Cartocan is described by foodproductiondaily.com as a seven-layer construction consisting of, from the outside in, PE/adhesive resin/foil/PE/carton board/metallized film/PE. Equipment developed by Ennstal Milch forms the body of a can and applies lid and base as well. Filling can be done aseptically for a 12-month shelf life. Tea, coffee, wine, milk mix drinks, and vitamin or wellness drinks are the targeted product categories.

The Cartocan is being positioned as an environmentally friendly alternative to aluminum cans or PET. Prominently positioned on the front top of the container is this message: itsu’s card•can (it’s not plastic!).
