China bans use of "functional water," other labeling

The goal of the new standards is to standardize beverage labeling.

As part of new regulations to standardize beverage labeling, China has banned the use of "energy water" and "functional water" for bottled water.

The new standards, which also tries to differentiate sometimes confusing terms such as "mineral spring water" and "mineral substance water," were reported in CRI English citing the Beijing Youth Daily, according to Drinks Business Review.

The change took effect immediately.
