Nestlé package 'percolates' success
Nestlé Canada’s Nescafé Ice coffee syrup bottle earned the “Chairman’s Choice” award in the 2001 National Canadian packaging competition. Developed in conjunction with Graham Packaging Canada (Burlington, Ontario, Canada), the blow-molded, black opaque high-density polyethylene bottle has turned a lot of heads in grocery dairy aisles since its Canadian national rollout earlier this year. A U. S. introduction is expected at some point in the future.

Canon Communications LLC's President and CEO, William F. Cobert, opened the WestPack 2001 trade show in Anaheim, CA, on June 19 as the new owner of the event. At the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Canon (Los Angeles, CA) presented a donation of $25ꯠ to the Packaging Education Forum (Arlington, VA).

Light beer grabs new star
Lone Star Light showed off its new package design at the Seventh Annual Great Texas Beer Festival on May 22. According to San Antonio, TX-based Pabst Brewing Co., LS Light was redesigned to differentiate the brand as a stand-alone, as opposed to its previous stance as a “light version” of Lone Star.

Welch’s Sparkling Juice is dressing up for the holidays. A new shrink-wrapped package, designed by Bailey Design Group (Plymouth Meeting, PA), should help Welch’s expand consumption of its product to times of the year other than Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year. “The challenge for us was to create lively packaging that ties in directly to holiday occasions and promotes a feel of family and celebration while maintaining a premium image,” says Russ Napolitano, executive vice president and partner at Bailey.

Campbell's meal kit packs convenience
Spotted by Packaging World editors at FMI, Campbell’s Supper Bakes will rollout nationally in July with five packaging components. Each outer paperboard carton contains a 10¾-oz easy-open steel can of baking sauce, a high-density polyethylene/ethylene vinyl acetate-blend pouch of starch mix, and paper/plastic and foil/plastic-laminated tandem packets of seasoning and crumb toppings.

Bomba Energy drinks hit the United States in a grenade-shaped 8.4-oz glass bottle topped with a steel cap and ring closure. When the ring is pulled, the cap lifts open. The exclusive importer, Energy Beverage Company of Long Island City, NY, launched the Bomba Energia Getränkevertriebs GmbH product in this country in May.
