Heat and Control’s horizontal motion Fastback convey- or eases the transition into a vertical conveyor up to the mezzanine distribution system. Additional Fastbacks disperse product into three Ishida checkweighers. The checkweighers dispense one of three size counts for pouching.

Conveying and checkweighing

A custom Bosch bagger vertically forms, fills the pouch as product is released from the checkweigher. A unique Velcro closure is applied in strips for reclosability, before the package is sealed. Pouches are expelled from the bagger vertically and remain upright, easing carton insertion down the line.

Maybe the trickiest portion of the line is the special Kliklok-Woodman Vari-Pitch Flip Top carton closer for a re-closable cover on the carton. The machine glues the side flaps of the top down yet maintains its reclosability in the front. The ability to ensure reclosure was key.

Carton merging system

This custom carton merging system from Shuttleworth, powered by Pro Mach, accepts cartons post-coding and mitigates the arrangement for case packaging. The system redirected the cartons in groups of four into one of three individual lanes. At the end of the lanes the twelve packages were picked six at a time for case packing.
