Cincinnati, Ohio-based grocery chain Kroger is looking to buy Home Chef, the largest private meal kit company in the United States. Although the proposed deal specifies a $200 million initial transaction price, the final cost could be up to $700 million, based on future payments of up to $500 million over the next five years, contingent on Home Chef achieving set sales goals. Should the merger go through, Home Chef will operate as a Kroger unit.
