Vaisala’s Carbocap® Carbon Dioxide Probe GMP231 provides incubator manufacturers with accurate and reliable carbon dioxide measurements and sterilization durability at high temperatures. The probe is based on Vaisala’s patented Carbocap technology and features Microglow, a new type of infrared (IR) light source.

Microglow represents next-generation IR technology that solves many of the challenges (e.g. high temperature durability and limited lifetime) that impact traditional IR sources or incandescent light bulbs. Thanks to these advancements, the GMP231 offers durability and allows for heat sterilization temperatures of up to 180°C. This enables easier and more complete sterilization of the incubator with the probe in place. Eliminating the need to decontaminate the probe separately saves the end user time and further reduces the risk of contamination.

The GMP231 has been developed together with a major industry partner and is designed for carbon dioxide (CO2) incubator OEMs. Many life science applications, such as growing and storing cell cultures, require the CO2 concentration to be measured and controlled. The required CO2 atmosphere, along with the temperature and humidity, is commonly generated with a special climate chamber called a CO2 incubator. Incubators are regularly sterilized before new samples are put inside.
