Insulated beverage wrap earns Gold

Winning a Gold Award for Technical Innovation was Cool2Go® wrap from DuPont (www.dupont.com/packaging). It is a 30- to 40-mil structure comprising polyester fiberfill material that’s heat-sealed between two layers of DuPont’s Melinex® polyester film.

Cool2Go serves as an insulating layer that keeps beverages cool by preventing the transfer of heat from warm hands, condensation, or the outside temperature.

Last summer, Labatt Breweries of Canada, Toronto, Ontario, became the first company to test Cool2Go, marketing 473-mL (16-oz) aluminum cans in the wrap. Supplied in rollstock form, the Cool2Go material was automatically applied to filled and seamed cans by Alliance Labeling (www.alliancelabeling.com). Then a shrink overwrap label from Multi-Color Corp. (www.multicolorcorp.com) was applied over the Cool2Go material. For this application, the printed overwrap label included Labatt’s Blue brand colors highlighted with silver metallic inks.
