Designers pick top ten

What will be hot in '97?

Package design and brand identity firm Libby Perszyk Kathman (Cincinnati, OH) predicted packaging trends they foresee for the coming year. Among them: * More novelty beer packaging, spurred by the Coors baseball bat bottle (see Packaging World, May, '96, p. 8). * Increased shelf presence of products formerly kept in back rooms, such as home computers, electronics and automotive products. This will require better package design on corrugated cartons. * Less secondary packaging in consumer products, including health & beauty products, as environmental issues continue to affect packaging.
