Food excluded from chemical labeling regs

Finished food products with trace food additives or pesticides should not be included in a globally harmonized system for chemical hazard classification and labeling.

That's according to the Coordinating Group for the Harmonization of Chemical Classification systems, which will make its recommendations to the Intergovernmental Forum on Chemical Safety (IFCS). AFFI applauded the decision, observing that including finished foods in a chemical labeling system for bulk chemicals would have resulted in "dramatically misleading food labels." IFCS is working to implement an international agreement to ensure the safe transport of dangerous goods, including chemicals, and to promote the safe use of chemicals.
