Nostalgia in a tin

For many Americans, the name "Burma Shave" brings back a flood of memories. So says the marketing force at Staunton, VA-based American Safety Razor, which is reintroducing the Burma Shave name in a metal gift canister depicting the Burma Shave jingles found on country roadsides throughout America as far back as the 1920s.

Inside is a shaving kit complete with soap, brush and mug. "Nostalgia is very in," says Vince Nelson, vp of sales and marketing at American Safety Razor. Graphics are by Steinau Fisher (Cincinnati, OH). J.L. Clark (Rockford, IL) supplies the 33-ga tinplate steel canister, which is offset-printed in six colors with a crystalline varnish. Inside, a 12-pt SBS white blank, also from J.L. Clark, holds the items in place. Geared for Christmas shopping, these new gift canisters were introduced to mass-marketers and drug chains this August. Suggested retail is $12.99.
