The new 656,000-sq-ft plant pork processing plant uses highly automated production and material handling systems that are linked throughout the facility for a continuous processing stream. Technology such as fully automated laser-guided saws, high-pressure water trim processes, and an automated storage and retrieval system enhance worker and food safety while allowing the facility to produce 12 million lbs of pork per week.

Conagra Brand’s Green Team in Council Bluffs, Iowa
2017 Sustainability Excellence in Manufacturing Award winner: By renaming its newly renovated waste dock the Recycling Operations Center, Conagra Brands’ Council Bluffs facility helped change employee perception about waste, allowing the company to divert an additional 2,100 tons of waste in 2016. In addition, its Leak Stoppers program encouraged employees to identify leaks, saving 2.1 million gal of water.

Hormel also launched a campaign to inform employees about these new initiatives and encourage them to take part in the recycling programs. These programs have resulted in a 20 percent improvement in recycling.
