Tea tins target younger crowd

Hip and cool are not words typically associated with drinking tea, but when Aj Vanderpool started Lazy Days Tea Co., Chicago, she wanted a package that would break from tradition and embody the free spirit and somewhat rebellious nature of today’s youth.

Vanderpool uses an unspecified contract packager in Canada to help bring the packages to market. At the front end of package development, Vanderpool’s five tea blends are packaged in custom-made tins designed by Baer Design Group The tins are perfect 4” cubes. “There isn’t a tin of its size and shape on the shelf currently,” Vanderpool notes, adding that the product has a two-year shelf life.

Illustrations on the tins help convey a contemporary vibe. “We really took the rebel approach with progressive graphics for a food item,” says Todd Baer, creative director, Bear Design Group. The B.F.F. blend, for example, shows two girls on a moped.
