The Nature Conservancy, along with Nestlé Purina and Cargill, is launching a new project in Nebraska focused on improving water sustainability in the beef supply chain by reducing the environmental impact of the irrigated row crops that are, in large part, used to feed cattle.

The project will be providing farmers with cost-effective irrigation technology, such as smart weather sensors in crop fields and Internet of Things technology on sprinklers connected to a smart phone app, to conserve up to 2.4 billion gallons of irrigation water over three years. The project will, hopefully, also provide a scalable irrigation solution for farmers nationwide.
