Ahead of the Pack

Rovema will feature a full line-up of its Total Packaging Systems during Pack Expo 2004, Booth N-4218.

Pw 12662 Vpl 400

Lawrenceville GA – Rovema a global leader in total packaging solutions brings an exciting line up to the upcoming Pack Expo Show in Chicago November 7 – 11 at McCormick Place. Rovema brings samples of its Systems Integration capabilities and will unveil new machinery that complements its wide range of packaging solutions.

Rovema will unveil its latest generation of continuous motion vertical form fill and seal machines the VPL-400. The VPL-400 developed with modern servo linear motor technology allows Rovema to enter a new era in bagging technology. The linear motor drive technology works on the principle of the “Magnetic Train”. This completely eliminates all oil-filled gears in the motor making the VPL-400 maintenance and wear and tear free as well as environmentally friendlier than previous models. Furthermore the up-time of the machine increases to 99%. The VPL is designed in Stainless Steel as standard; making it an ideal solution for the Frozen Food industry. Also integrated in the VPL is the patented jaw jam detection system which prevents product remains to be trapped in the seals. Given the ability to adjust the bag length and the jaw opening during operation high outputs can be achieved with longer bag lengths.

The VPL-400 will be producing a pillow style bag and will be feeding the latest case packer from the Rovema family the VFS-643 Vertical Loading system. The VFS is a compact case packer ideal for non-fragile products that are packed laying flat in an RSC Case. Its small footprint and stainless steel design makes the VFS an ideal solution for a frozen food line but can be utilized in a vast number of industries.

The VFS simple operation consists of a collating system via a pull nose conveyor. Specifically the bags can be collated either back-to-back or shingled and are located in a buffer station. An upstream bag conditioning system is responsible for the tight collation of the bags inside the case. To complement this operation a back seal control offers high security for detecting and rejecting open vertical seals. The pull nose conveyor also takes care of the exact positioning of the bags regardless of weight or length. After the buffer station the bags are then placed into the case through a double gate opening that minimizes the drop distance and also creates the necessary buffer for case exchanges.

Additional features of the VFS are its turning belts and automatic size adjustment as well as integrated control with a Rovema Bagger. Furthermore due to its compact design and layout flexibility the infeed and discharge directions can be freely chosen during the VFS design thus allowing an smoother integration to an existing layout. The VFS can handle case maximum case sizes of 600 mm x 600 mm x 400 mm and can be accessed from all sides for easy maintenance. The VFS comes with Allen Bradley ControlLogix operator controls.

The versatile VVI-200 vertical pouching machine will also be in display. The VVI-200 system with 10-patented features comes with fixed sealing jaws rotated 90º to produce 3-sided 4-sided and Doy Style stand-up pouch products. The automatic format adjustment allows production of different pouch sizes with a single push of a button saving tremendous changeover time. Within this flexible changeover 80-250-mm (3 5/32 – 9 5/6”) pouch height and 50-200-mm (1 31/32 – 7 7/8“) pouch width can occur without forming set changes producing up to 100 pouches/minute. In addition two baggers can be set in place while maintaining original system controls for higher productivity.

Rovema will display two additional packaging lines during the show. The first line features Rovema’s continuous motion bagger the VPK-260 feeding Rovema’s Universal Loading and Filling System the ULF-443. The VPK is capable of speeds of up to 180 bags per minute and will be producing the award winning Stabilo® Seal stand-up pouch with a reclosable zipper feature. The ULF is a versatile high speed case packer that allows with quick changeovers both top and side loading operations for case packers.

The second line has a high-speed confectionery application with another VPK-260 producing a Pillow Style bag with the SealStrip reclosure. Sealstrip is a resealable tape applied vertically in the machine. The pillow bags will be going to a Top Loading case packer model TLS-664.

Finally Rovema will display an intermittent motion Vertical Form Fill and Seal Machine model VPI-260 for the production of Pillow and Flat Bottom style bags.
