Your organization may be eligible to apply for an EPA Source Reduction Assistance (SRA) grant. SRA grants fund innovative source reduction approaches (also known as “pollution prevention” or “P2”). P2 means reducing or eliminating pollutants from entering any waste stream or otherwise released into the environment prior to recycling, treatment, or disposal.

SRA grants are similar to the previously circulated Pollution Prevention (P2) grants, but the SRA grants are open to a wider pool of applicants and provide for technical assistance beyond just businesses; only require a 5% match; and focus on a learning concept, as opposed to fixing an environmental problem using well-established methods (developing new P2 technical assistance methods through research, investigation, experiments, education, training, studies, and/or demonstration of innovative techniques).

Specifically, EPA requests proposals in alignment with five national emphasis areas, including food and beverage manufacturing and processing.

The request for applications can be found at https://www.epa.gov/sites/production/files/2020-02/documents/general_sra_grant_guidance.pdf.

Applications are due: Friday, May 15, 2020 – This is an extension to the previously announced April 30 deadline.

An informational webinar, with an opportunity to ask questions, will be held on Wednesday, March 25, 2020 from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m EDT for potential applicants and interested stakeholders. Register at: https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/2359303868474796043.

Eligibility: The 50 states, the District of Columbia, the United States Virgin Islands, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, any territory or possession of the United States, local governments, city or township governments, independent school district governments, state-controlled institutions of higher education, nonprofit organizations (other than institutions of higher education), private institutions of higher education, community-based grassroots organizations, and federally recognized tribes and intertribal consortia.

Please review EPA’s P2 Grants and National Emphasis Areas websites for more information on the P2 program, the grant types, and eligibility. Feel free to share this email and information with your colleagues and other interested parties. Contact Peter Piergiovanni with any questions.
