Alcoholic beverages are dangerous when consumed in excess, and even moderate consumption may pose health risks. Labeling or advertising statements that imply that consumption of low-calorie or low-carb alcoholic beverages is part of a healthy diet are misleading unless they present “all the facts in a balanced manner,” the agency said.
Calorie and carb claims on spirits
The Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau issued guidance on calorie and carbohydrate claims in advertising and labeling of alcoholic beverages. TTB wants to ensure that consumers are not mislead by labeling statements that give only a partial picture of the health effects of consuming alcohol.
