Broader NY bottle bill

The New York State Assembly Committee on Codes endorsed legislation to extend the state’s deposit container law to bottles and cans of juice, iced tea, sports drinks, and water.

Proponents say the number of such containers has increased significantly since the law was passed in 1982. Opponents respond that municipal recycling programs didn’t exist at that time either and that these programs provide free curbside pickup for the targeted containers.
