Greenway Farms, which operates out of Gaithersburg, Md., has selected Sollum Technologies’ SF-ONE LED lighting fixtures to further support crop quality with an emphasis on the farm’s lettuce production, Sollum announced on Tuesday.
Greenway grows leafy greens and fresh fish year-round and focuses on doing so with sustainable practices. The farm delivers fresh produce and fish across the DC-Maryland-Virginia region and avoids long transportation routes in the process to help advance the principles of clean agriculture, according to the release.
The farm manages the SF-ONE LED lighting fixtures on Sollum’s SUN as a Service platform, which enables custom light recipes and zone-by-zone control specifically for lettuce production.
“We chose Sollum for its unmatched flexibility,” says Elshan Bal, partner at Greenway Farms. “Being able to fine-tune our light spectrum and intensity at the zone level gives us a new level of control over crop quality, uniformity, and scheduling. This adaptability is a real game changer for our production.”
Greenway uses Sollum’s LED lighting system to apply custom light recipes to each crop’s growth stage and manage zone-by-zone adjustments. This helps the farm deliver more consistent quality across lettuce varieties, which yields greater operational efficiency and progress on sustainability goals.
“Greenway Farms exemplifies the kind of forward thinking, quality-driven operation our solution was designed for,” says Matthew Bonavita, Vice President, Sales for the US market, for Sollum Technologies. “We’re excited to collaborate with their team to take advantage of all that dynamic lighting has to offer, from targeted crop performance to more efficient energy use.”
While Greenway Farms focuses on leafy greens and fish, its sustainability initiatives may further benefit from the use of select post-harvest solutions, such as the Flair S1 solution Fresh Formulaics showcased in Feb. 2025 that targets food waste reduction, as ProFood World previously covered.
