Fresh Formulaics, a post-harvest solutions producer, is set to showcase its first product, Flair S1, at the Berlin Fruit Logistica from Feb. 5 to Feb. 7., the company announced in a press release.

Flair S1 is a plant-based post-harvest solution that citrus and stone fruit packagers can use to extend and protect produce. The solution is designed to improve fruit shelf life, quality, and appearance, which in turn, can reduce waste.

Benefits of the all-in-one S1 solution include the following:

·      A longer-lasting shine

·      No maximum residue levels (MRLs)

·      Elimination of plastic use and non-vegan ingredients

·      Expansion into new markets

·      Allows produce to retain firmness and freshness

·      Reduction of overpack

·      Reduction or elimination of heat drying

·      Helps achieve higher fruit throughput

·      Consolation of treatment steps

In addition, Flair S1 can help process fruit faster and eliminate the need for fruit tempering, which can cut energy consumption and operational costs. These benefits can improve fruit packagers' processes and help reduce the amount of waste from farm to consumer.

30 to 40% of the food supply is estimated to be wasted in the U.S., according to the USDA. Factors such as land, water, labor, energy, and other inputs used in producing, processing, transporting, preparing, storing, and disposing discarded food can be taxing and costly, the agency notes.

Spoilage is a key driver of waste. However, products like the Flair S1 can help extend the time produce stays fresh and further address waste burdens.
