Spot & Tango is investing more than $20 million to double production capacity at its Lehigh Valley dog food plant and add about 50 jobs, four years after the New York City-based company opened the facility.
The expansion in Upper Macungie Township adds 20,000 square feet to the plant Spot & Tango opened in Oct. 2022, bringing the site to about 90,000 square feet. Workforce headcount is expected to grow from 100 to 150 with new roles in production, quality, maintenance, logistics and warehouse operations.
Dylan Munro, Spot & Tang’s Chief Operating Officer, told the Lehigh Valley Economic Development Corp. the company expanded in place because of the local labor market and proximity to headquarters.
“We've had such a great experience here,” says Dylan Munro, Spot & Tango’s Chief Operating Officer. “We have a really strong team, relatively low turnover. It's really convenient for our headquarters. What's great is we can have our team in New York visit our team in Allentown and vice versa on a regular basis, and that allows us to build culture. We love the area.”
Company sales are growing 60% to 70% year over year, Munro told LVEDC, attributing demand to marketing, the convenience of online ordering, customer referrals and more pet owners treating their animals as family members.
