INOXPA continue to commit to technological innovation in order to optimise processes in the sanitary industry. And now we present the new C-TOP S IO-Link control unit, designed to provide smarter, more precise and more efficient valve control. The integration of IO-Link into control units represents a major breakthrough compared to conventional digital solutions, enabling advanced two-way communication, real-time diagnostics and more flexible configuration.
What is the IO-Link communication interface and why does it push the boundaries for automation?
IO-Link is a standardized industrial communication protocol (IEC 61131-9) that enables the smart connection of sensors and actuators to automation systems. As opposed to traditional digital solutions, IO-Link provides continuous two-way communication between the control unit and the monitoring system, enabling constant real-time data exchange. This improves process monitoring but also makes predictive maintenance easier and optimises performance.
The benefits of INOXPA C-TOP S IO-Link control units compared to standard digital solutions:
- Real-time monitoring: Continuous communication means valve operation anomalies can be detected immediately, enabling a faster response to potential faults.
- Advanced diagnostics: The control unit with an IO-Link communication interface provides detailed information about the status of the valve, including the exact position, operation cycles, and wear warnings, meaning problems can be anticipated before they affect production.
- Remote configuration and parameter setting: Adjustments can be made using the control system without needing to adjust the unit manually, reducing down times and increasing operational flexibility.
- Fewer cables and a simpler installation: As opposed to traditional solutions that require multiple cables to transmit signals, IO-Link control units use point-to-point connection with just one standard cable, making integration into existing systems easier.
- Higher operating efficiency: Interoperability with different automation platforms enables more precise control tailored to the specific needs of each plant.
The information transmitted between the INOXPA C-TOP S IO-Link unit and the automation system can be categorised as 3 types:
Process data: Data obtained at the measuring point that is sent periodically to the master IO-Link or also information sent to the device from the master.
Parameter data: This data refers to the information about each device has regarding, for example, the model, code, serial number, description, and so on.
Diagnostic data: This data, also known as “events”, affect how well and correctly the IO-Link device operates and performs, such as temperature, load, errors, etc.
The new INOXPA C-TOP S IO-Link unit provides new functions that can be summarized as:
- Remote parameter setting and start-up of the unit.
- Secure signal transmission with no measurement losses.
- Visualization of potential error messages.
- Logging of parameter sets and process values.
- Evaluation of process values via the IO-Link master.
