Smithfield Foods expanding Sioux Falls operations

The pork producer is investing almost $45 million to upgrade its plant with state-of-the-art equipment.

Smithfield Foods, Inc. is spending nearly $45 million to renovate a high-speed bacon line, a ground seasoned pork operation and the distribution center, as well as rebuilding a facility that houses more than 8,000 hogs, at its Sioux Falls, SD location. Currently underway, the distribution center renovation is scheduled to be completed by March 2019, while the upgrading of equipment to include high-speed lines is due to be completed by May of next year. The hog barn renovation, which includes automatic climate control systems, will be completed in early fall 2019. The renovation and expansion will add 70 jobs at the facility.
