When a prominent retailer like Walmart becomes involved in a food safety story revolving around a mass product like ground beef, it has potential to catch traction. This beef recall stemmed from reports of possible pathogen contamination from one of Walmart’s manufacturing partners.
In early May, contract manufacturer Cargill Meat Solutions recalled nearly 16,243 lb (8.12 tons) of raw ground beef products that may have been contaminated with E. coli O157:H7, per the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).
