The prescription drugs were not in child resistant packaging, which put them in violation of the Poison Prevention Packaging Act.

A recent article from The Columbus Dispatch noted the recall of 9 different drugs from Sandoz and Novartis. Apparently both companies were in violation of the Poison Prevention Packaging Act, as their drugs were not properly packaged in child resistant blister packs. The oversight led to a confirmed report of a child ingesting haloperidol from a blister pack.

The recall affects lots sold at clinics and pharmacies nationwide between September 2016 and June 2018. Consumers with affected lots are instructed to secure the blister cards to keep them away from children and contact the companies for further instructions. The affected drugs include: Azithromycin, Donepezil, Haloperidol, Imipramine HCl, Isosorbide Dinitrate, Naratriptan, Ondansetron, Perphenazine, and Risperidone.
