Smurfit Kappa presented its Our Open Community Report, highlighting stories of social projects developed in the last year. The report collected 130 stories of high-impact initiatives created in the Americas and Europe, with the aim of contributing to improve the quality of life in the communities in which the company operates.
In The Americas, hundreds of people have benefited from the company's programs. These initiatives are aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly goals 2, 3, 4, 5, 10, and 15, which are related to Empowering Communities, Promoting Well-being, Inspiring the Future, and Protecting the Planet.
And, specifically in the U.S., the company promoted seven projects throughout 2022, involving donations, fundraising events, or even awareness-raising activities, all aimed at improving the quality of life of the communities linked to the company. Three of these projects included:
• In 2021, the Smurfit Kappa plant in San Antonio partnered with the San Antonio Metropolitan Ministries (SAMMinistries), an organization that strives to provide support and services to underprivileged families and individuals within the local community.
• Take Steps is the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation’s national walk and the nation’s largest event dedicated to finding cures for inflammatory bowel diseases.
• To commemorate Earth Day 2022, the Smurfit Kappa Fort Worth plant volunteered with the local environmental organization, Dallas Ground Work, to clean up the local park.
These projects were made possible due to Smurfit Kappa’s support. The company, guided by its purpose of creating, protecting, and caring, committed to generate a significant impact on the families and communities surrounding its USA locations, collaborating with NGOs like UNICEF and even its own employees. In this way, the organization reaffirms its commitment to promote the well-being of the communities with which its operations coexist.
