FORDS Packaging Systems has launched Unpacked, a new YouTube channel dedicated to exploring the topics, challenges and innovations shaping the global packaging industry.

With packaging under more scrutiny than ever before - from sustainability and materials to design, accessibility and consumer expectations - Unpacked aims to create a space for informed discussion and future-focused analysis.

Each episode will take a closer look at the decisions, trade-offs and technologies affecting packaging across its entire lifespan, including creation, use and end-of-life pathways such as recycling or reuse.

First episode tackles small-format plastic waste

The channel’s debut video, “These TINY bottles create MASSIVE waste. Here’s the upgrade we need.”, is now live.

In the first episode, host Jordan Urquhart examines the hidden impact of small-format, single-use bottles. Despite their size, these products require a disproportionately high amount of container material relative to their contents. When billions of these bottles are produced each year, the cumulative material use becomes significant, especially when leaner packaging formats could fulfil the same on-the-go need with far less plastic. The video highlights why these formats are so material-intensive and what the industry might consider when rethinking single-serve packaging.

A platform spotlighting real packaging issues

Unpacked will continue to explore broader industry topics, including:

·       Current sustainability pressures and practical responses

·       Design trends and material innovations

·       Accessibility insights and user-centric packaging approaches

·       Emerging technologies influencing packaging performance

·       Real-world examples, alternatives and new possibilities

The goal is to bring important packaging topics to the fore, highlight different viewpoints and inspire the kind of curiosity that leads to better packaging decisions.

Created for people passionate about packaging

Unpacked is designed as a home for the issues packaging professionals care about most. Each episode shines the spotlight on a different concept - presented clearly, with practical context and the aim of opening up the conversation around what’s possible.
