Would You Apply for a Job Listing that Doesn’t Include Salary Range?

Consumer packaged goods companies may need to open up about salary range as job seekers’ standards shift and wage discussions become less taboo.

Transcript

Like all industries, CPGs struggle finding and retaining packaging talent. Modern job seekers are prioritizing salary range in their search, and it's forcing companies to reconsider old wage habits.  Generations expert Jason Dorsey says salary range needs to be front and center to attract attention.

Jason Dorsey: “And a lot of people immediately go, I don’t want to do that. I don’t want them to know. But the reality is you don’t have to show it. You just won’t get applicants.”

Not all packaging job seekers have dollar signs for eyes. They just want to know if the salary meets their needs and negotiate from there.

Companies can benefit too. Recruiters can lay out a clear path to a higher salary, and offer wages based on factors like previous experience.

But, as workers discuss wages more openly, experienced workers may grow resentful if they learn new hires are paid as much if not more than them.

Companies need to offer consistent wage standards to stay competitive in this new landscape.

Jason Dorsey: “As you see more states push for salary transparency, at least salary ranges, it’s going to become less and less taboo, or less and less of a secret, and more of just, it’s just something you’ve got to put out there in order to be part of the employment conversation.”
