Starbucks is aiming to eliminate single-use plastic straws in its stores globally by 2020. The company is planning to use recyclable strawless lids and/or straws made from paper or compostable materials. The strawless lid, intended become the standard for all iced coffee, tea and espresso beverages, already is available in over 8,000 stores in the US and Canada for select beverages.

Once they are in place at all the company’s stores worldwide, the changes will allow Starbucks to eliminate more than 1 billion plastic straws per year.
