The omission of the ingredient was discovered during a routine label revision, the company says. Consumers with allergies or severe insensitivity to eggs run the risk of a severe reaction, possibly life-threatening, if they consume these products. No illnesses have been reported, says a Rich spokesperson. Complicating the recall is the fact that the cakes were distributed to foodservice and in-store bakeries that typically ice and decorate them for sale. Often they are not identified as a Rich Products item to the consumer. Consumers who have purchased carrot cakes that were improperly labeled can return them to the purchase location for a full refund.
