Beverage containers to exceed 217 billion in 2003

Plastic containers will grow fastest, with demand rising more than 6% annually through 2003, says the study. Advances in barrier properties and production techniques will also permit plastics to compete in increasingly smaller serving sizes.

Carbonated soft drinks will remain the single-largest market for beverage containers, with a share approaching 50%. Beer will remain the second-largest market, while fruit juices and drinks are expected to replace milk in third place, says the study.

Published in July, the 214-page "Beverage Containers" is available for $3귔.
