Danone North America Regenerative Agriculture Program Helps Mitigate Climate Change

The company shares the 3-year achievements and impacts of its multi-year, multi-million dollar soil health research program.

Danone Farm Pic

Launched in 2017, the Danone North America regenerative farming program offers best-in-class soil health programs to improve organic matter in soils, reduce chemical use, restore biodiversity, and enhance soil water holding capacity.

As of year three, the program has increased its enrollment to more than 82,000 acres and has:

  • Doubled the number of cover crop and cash crop species, including grasses, legumes, and brassicas, to promote crop diversity and support wildlife habitat and pollinators, such as bees and butterflies, that are critical to agriculture
  • Enhanced soil water holding capacity through improved soil health management and protected water supply through technologies, such as soil moisture probes, filter strips, and saturated buffers
  • Reduced more than 80,000 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent and sequestered more than 20,000 tons of carbon through regenerative soil health practices
