New Glanbia Plant Begins Production in Michigan

The state-of-the-art cheese and whey facility marked October 21 as the first day of operations and the beginning of the commissioning phase.

The Glanbia Nutritionals $470 million, 375,000-sq-ft, state-of-the-art cheese and whey MWC plant in St. Johns, Mich. has begun receiving milk. A joint venture between Glanbia Nutritionals, Dairy Farmers of America, Inc., and Select Milk Producers Inc., MWC was designed and built over a two-year period to meet exacting food manufacturing standards. Commissioning operations at MWC will take place over the next eight months. When fully operational, the facility will process 8 million lb of milk per day into block cheese and value-added whey products for the U.S. and international markets.
