Grupo Bimbo, the world’s largest baking company, has become a member of RE100, a global, collaborative initiative of The Climate Group, together with CDP. The company, which is the first in Mexico and Latin America to join RE100, has committed to use 100 percent renewable energy for its electricity in the 32 countries where it operates by 2025.
It plans to achieve its goals through solutions such as Power Purchase Agreements, purchasing Renewable Energy Certificates, investing in onsite distributed generation and buying clean energy directly. Currently, Grupo Bimbo utilizes the Piedra Larga Wind Farm to obtain clean energy for its plants and some work centers throughout Mexico and has installed solar panels on the rooftops of several sites in Mexico.
