Olymel Opens $142 Million Integrated Plant in Trois-Rivières

Olymel has inaugurated its new integrated plant in Trois-Rivières, Quebec, completing a $142 million modernization project that expands the facility and increases its production capacity.

The plant now has annual production capacity of 50 million kg (110 million lbs), more than four times its previous capacity. The project brings pork and poultry processing, slicing, and packaging under one roof, allowing Olymel to consolidate several production steps at the site. In addition to La Fernandière sausages and hams, the plant now produces the majority of Olymel deli meats sold across Canada.

The project expanded the plant from 51,700 sq ft to 137,200 sq ft. Annual production capacity increased from 12 million kg (26 million lbs) to 50 million kg 110 million lbs). Olymel says the plant includes technology tied to energy efficiency, automation, and artificial intelligence.

OlymelThe company also says the facility includes new equipment and processes intended to reduce resource use and lower the site’s environmental footprint. Those measures include an industrial battery system that stores energy when demand is low and releases it during peak demand, along with heat recovery, closed-loop water management, reduced transportation, and a focus on water-based cooking over air-based cooking. Olymel says its energy-efficiency initiatives will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 3,000 tons of CO₂ equivalent per year.

OlymelThe plant began phasing in its first new production lines in May after the project was announced in June 2025. The expansion has created nearly 100 jobs, bringing the plant’s total workforce to about 400 employees. Olymel says the project also generated $110 million in orders with Canadian companies, including more than $94 million with local companies.

Public-sector partners provided more than $20.3 million in financial assistance for the project, including a $15 million loan from Investissement Québec, $2 million from MAPAQ, a $1.8 million grant from Hydro-Québec, $1.3 million from the province’s environment ministry, and $250,000 from the City of Trois-Rivières.
