Mars Names New Global Corporate R&D VP and Chief Science Officer

Dr. Maria Velissariou will lead the company’s enterprise-wide approach to quality and food safety, scientific, and regulatory affairs.

Mars, Incorporated has appointed Dr. Maria Velissariou as its new global corporate research & development vice president and chief science officer, effective September 13. Most recently, Velissariou was the chief science and technology officer at the Institute of Food Technologists. She previously served as vice president for nutrition R&D at PepsiCo and held a variety of R&D positions at Kraft Foods in coffee, refreshment beverages, cheese and dairy, and ingredient research.
