Sorting System Improves Overall Product Quality and Increases Yield

Automates and transforms entire operation of fresh-cut apple processors

Key Veryx Apple Sorting System

This content was written and submitted by the supplier. It has only been modified to comply with this publication’s space and style.

The Key Technology sorting system includes belt conveyors that transfer peeled and cored whole, halved, or sliced apples to a sizer remover, which mechanically removes the fines. Product then either goes to a cutter that cuts the apples into different sizes and shapes or, if already sliced, directly to a sorter. A conveyor carries the apple cubes, strips, dices, or wedges to an infeed shaker that spreads the product for presentation to a mechanical size grader, which removes small pieces. A dewatering shaker removes residual water while spreading and singulating product to feed the downstream sorter. The digital sorter is equipped with top- and bottom-mounted cameras and laser sensors to detect color, size, shape, and structural properties of products, and to find and remove defects and foreign material.
