GPI cited I.B.C. Soft Drinks' proprietary bottle with an embossed label as its Beverage Success Story because it helped increase sales by more than 35% over last year. Frito-Lay's Tostitos salsa container helped boost sales more than 50% compared to its previous year to win the Food Success Story category. "For seven consecutive years, this awards program has highlighted marketing savvy and successes in glass packaging," says GPI president Lewis D. Andrews, Jr. "We are encouraged to see so many innovative applications." Other Clear Choice Awards winners include: Campbell Soup Co.'s Barilla pasta sauces (see p. 102), New Product Food; Pepsi-Cola Co.'s Smooth Moos Smoothies dairy shakes, New Product Beverage; Stanpac, Inc.'s Straus Family creamery refillable milk container, Environmental Awareness; Sutter Home's White Zinfandel, Mature Product Repositioning. Tying for honors in the Package Design category: Canadian Club's Classic whiskey bottle and Jack Daniel's Bicentennial decanter, both described by GPI as "elegant, clear glass bottles designed to grab the consumer's attention and to reflect the quality of the product inside." The decanter was also a co-winner in the Distilled Spirits/Wine category, along with Pecos Heat Chili Pepper Tequila.
